11.00   Performance and Documentary

Placing works in different categories is so often a lazy curatorial device. Work rarely fits comfortably into one camp or another. In fact work often crosses over many boundaries. However within any kind of moving image survey it is important to recognise different aspects of representing the world as we find it. Documentary is used in many different ways, as a form of reportage, a personal statement, an act of defiance, there are many ways it is used. This selection offers just a few.

In this small selection are works that could have appeared in other programmes and visa versa.  But the line between a performance filmed and a film performed is often thin and easily crossed.

In a way to make this point we have included here a work that is also shown in identity and politics, a work by Maryam Tafakory.
