strangelove festival launch strange cargo

Strange Cargo

Strangelove festival kicked off with a double launch of the film Brigitte (2016) A film by Jyll Bradley with Thierry Bal and the exhibition  Sight and Sound curated by Faye Golley. The exhibition will included works by Fari Bradley, Reece Thomas Green, Rob Smith, Philippa Wall and Luke Jones.

This second edition began was a sixteen day celebration of artists video, film, performance and sound as Strangelove Festival took over, the streets and spaces of Folkestone.  With a packed programme of live events, screenings, exhibitions, workshops and talks Strangelove Festival joined together the diversity and talent of over 100 international, UK and local artists. Video works from artists that include, Mark Wallinger, Richard Wilson and Tracey Emin.

The festival merges live events, screenings and exhibitions at Strange Cargo and the Sassoon Gallery with some unexpected takeovers that popped up throughout the programme.  Festival highlights included a Secret Strangelove programme of encounters and performances, with artists including Lucky Bert, that activated unusual spaces around Folkestone. There was a special free screening of Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove at the Silver Screen Cinema. A special project  by BAFTA nominated screenwriter and director Tony Grisoni, whose film credits include Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and the acclaimed TV serial Red Riding.

The Quarterhouse hosted Queer Puppet’s Cabaret and the Premiere of Brighton based group Partial Facsimile’s new work Media OS 5.1 where the audience were immersed inside a surround sound total environment.

In addition to the Folkestone based events in March we’ll be connecting with our coastal neighbours moving the festival down the coastline in projects hosted by our partners in Brighton and Eastbourne.
